Local Snooze Paper

I was reading the local newspaper, which I will leave nameless. As I am reading the sports section I notice there are no scores from last nights baseball games. I look at the start times and most of them started at 7:05 pm. The games all had “late game” next to them. I have never seen a paper with a 9 pm curfew.

News papers are always complaining they are losing customers to online news. I can see why. I can go online and get up to the minute scores, so why do I need the paper and waste trees. Good thing I am not paying for it, as my grandparents are, cause I would have cancelled it a long time ago.

Dancing Patriots

I was perusing the internet today, just 2 days after my beloved New England Patriots lost the Super Bowl.  I see Rob Gronkowski and Matt Light were out dancing it up.  Good for them, see I don’t think this a problem.  They were celebrating the fact they made the biggest game of the year.  It was also the most watched event of all time, with a little more than 111 million viewers tuning in.

Some fans are displaying huge amounts of resentment and disappointment in the fact they are out partying after losing such a big game.  If you had actually watched the game, you would understand they played their hearts out and needed to unwind. There is nothing wrong with blowing off steam and dancing.  I think it is better them do this than out doing drugs or taking their aggression out on somebody.

I was just as upset the Pats lost this game as the next fan, but I also know this will not keep Bill Belichick and the Patriots down.  This team will re-group and be even better next year.

“Middle Class”

While having dinner with the person who writes the “second best blog post ever“, and my girl friend last night, we got into a discussion about true happiness and what that means. It was stated that unless you’re in the true middle class then you can’t be happy. During the conversation last night, he stated that true middle class people have to have an average household income of roughly $200,000.  So after much debate on both sides, I did my own research.

What I found out was I was closer to correct than he will give me credit for…lol. Since there are many levels of middle class.  I would consider myself a middle class American, even though his definition of where we both fall is Upper Poor.  I respectively declined his position. The whole debate was surrounding what true happiness was and can that be achieved in our current situation.  I stated I was very much the happy person in my current position.  Could there be room for improvement.  I think we both agreed there is always room for improvement.  Even if I reached the 1% of household income, I still would think there is room for improvement.

The analogy was used if I were running a race of 12 people and I finished 11th would I be happy.  When I said yes, he almost fell off of the bar stool.  When asked why, I simply stated I finished the race and was able to not finish last. Therefore it was success.  The final agreement was that money doesn’t always buy you happiness.

Pissed off Customers

Why is it, we think by yelling at a sales clerk we will get our way? Well for the most part it is not the case. Just ask the guy who tried to yell at me yesterday. I allowed him to “vent” and when he continued to yell at me, I simply asked if he was ready to listen to what I had to say. That made him even more mad, but that was sort of my point. I was not able to satisfy his need of getting a new product. A product that has a year warranty and had been purchased more than 60 days ago. In the end I won, and he had to thank me for helping him out.

So to quote the movie Cool Runnings, “Peace be the Journey”. I finally had some peace when he left my store. Moral of the story, be nice to the people who are serving you, whether its at a restaurant, car lot, or even your local cell phone store. It will get you a lot farther in the long run.

Pledge Of Unallegance

I was perusing the Yahoo Sports section this evening when I see an article jump out at me.  NBC apologizes for Omitting “Under God” from Pledge before U.S. Open. What in the hell is NBC thinking.  I understand the whole separate church and state. But this is bull shit, I mean really???? I didn’t get to see the opening coverage of the telecast due to work, so I didn’t actually see this for myself. In the link above and it shows the whole opening which was nicely done otherwise.  The clip shows the Military, and cuts back to the kids reciting the Pledge.  The kicker of all of this is the U.S. Open was played right outside Washington D.C. Click on the link above and you can watch the opening and see for yourself.

I do understand the portion of “Under God” was not part of the original Pledge from 1892, but it was signed in by probably one of the last great Presidents this Country has seen, President Dwight D. Eisenhower.  I for one believe if it is signed into law by a President, then NBC shouldn’t be afraid to “offend” any one by playing the words “Under God” or “indivisible”, especially in the time of war.  Dammit NBC, thank you for admitting the screw up, but you should have the guts to play the unedited version in the first place.  You are catching more grief for not playing it, than if you did play the whole thing.  Thank you Yahoo for pointing out the screw up on NBC’s part.

“TOT MOM”

Why is it I am even remotely interested in the case of State of Florida vs. Casey Anthony?  Hell I still don’t know why I am now. At first I didn’t care at all, and then for some reason I started to watch the opening statements, and I was intrigued.  I have not kept up with the everyday facts of the case, none the less still try and keep up with the updates.

Do I think Casey killed little Caylee. Actually no…. At least not on purpose. I think it was an accident, but Casey has been lying her whole life and didn’t know when to stop. Unfortunately we will never really know the truth.  As much untruth as the Anthony family has been spewing out, the truth will never be known. Ultimately its still such a shame that a young life was taken from this Earth.

Lock Out!

What is the NFL and its players really fighting about? Is it the $9 Billion or is it something else?  I think it’s the owners trying to show the players whose dick is bigger.   The NFL and the NFLPA are meeting again this week and trying to figure out how they can get back to playing.  That’s great and all, but who is the one who really is the one losing in all this.  It’s the fans.  That’s right I said it, the fans.  Once all of this is solved and the current and retired players get their way and get the majority of the shared $9 Billion, the fans are going to pay the ultimate price.

What this means to the fans is raised ticket prices to see these over-priced players get even more money.  The average price for a ticket is currently $63. That doesn’t even include the cost of food or a beer or soda.  This has to stop soon.  The fans will not be able to keep affording to attend the games.  As the economy continues to plummet we keep paying these players more money.  It is up to the fans to say enough already.
