While having dinner with the person who writes the “second best blog post ever“, and my girl friend last night, we got into a discussion about true happiness and what that means. It was stated that unless you’re in the true middle class then you can’t be happy. During the conversation last night, he stated that true middle class people have to have an average household income of roughly $200,000. So after much debate on both sides, I did my own research.
What I found out was I was closer to correct than he will give me credit for…lol. Since there are many levels of middle class. I would consider myself a middle class American, even though his definition of where we both fall is Upper Poor. I respectively declined his position. The whole debate was surrounding what true happiness was and can that be achieved in our current situation. I stated I was very much the happy person in my current position. Could there be room for improvement. I think we both agreed there is always room for improvement. Even if I reached the 1% of household income, I still would think there is room for improvement.
The analogy was used if I were running a race of 12 people and I finished 11th would I be happy. When I said yes, he almost fell off of the bar stool. When asked why, I simply stated I finished the race and was able to not finish last. Therefore it was success. The final agreement was that money doesn’t always buy you happiness.
